Science Lab

On Monday the 16th of November our classroom and other classroom went over to Pukekohe High School for the science lab introduction. When we were there we learn t about the stuff that we were going to be taught at high schools. The lab teacher gave us all booklets that we had to fill in. Things that were different from a classroom in this lab was that the desks were arranged differently. Als0 the surrounding were much different. Our first sort of lesson we had was having learn how to draw scientific tools. Then naming them and finding out what they do. Next we had to experiment with bunsen burner to a gas output and then lite a match to ignite the gas. This was very exciting. Next we had to experiment with the flame. The orange flame that came out first was the saftey flame. The next flame we experimented with was the blue flame. We created the blue flame by opening a air hole on the barrel of the Bunsen burner turning it blue. We then investigated which flame would be hotter. The blue flame was much hotter than the orange flame. Finally we experimeneted with chemical. We had to heat them over the Bunsen burner and waited until it changed colour. It started blue than went to orange.

Science Fair 09

Pukekohe Intermediate had there annual Science fair competition. Our Group ( Jesse Watkin, Alex Sheree and I) did our science fair project on Viscosity. We chose to present our project on a research board. Our group ran into some trouble while doing our science fair project, our topic started as finger prints. We were planning to do how people disguise their fingerprints. Our group learnt a lot about viscosity, such as what it is, how it used and how it affects liquid. Our overall score for our project was 70, i think we could have improved our score by displaying our infomation in a different way and adding more infomation.

Science Roadshow

On Monday the 20th of July, our classroom attended the Fonterra Science Roadshow. During our session time we saw two professional demonstrations by roadshow staff. The demonstrations were Earth - matter, energy, life and Sounding out waves the science of sound. There were also over 60 hands-on exhibits with themes how things work, gravity, Investigation life, Measurement, Light reflections and Astronomy. One of demonstrations involved a helium balloon which was lit on fire and then exploded with a loud bang, we had to cover our ears because of sound.
