Science Lab

On Monday the 16th of November our classroom and other classroom went over to Pukekohe High School for the science lab introduction. When we were there we learn t about the stuff that we were going to be taught at high schools. The lab teacher gave us all booklets that we had to fill in. Things that were different from a classroom in this lab was that the desks were arranged differently. Als0 the surrounding were much different. Our first sort of lesson we had was having learn how to draw scientific tools. Then naming them and finding out what they do. Next we had to experiment with bunsen burner to a gas output and then lite a match to ignite the gas. This was very exciting. Next we had to experiment with the flame. The orange flame that came out first was the saftey flame. The next flame we experimented with was the blue flame. We created the blue flame by opening a air hole on the barrel of the Bunsen burner turning it blue. We then investigated which flame would be hotter. The blue flame was much hotter than the orange flame. Finally we experimeneted with chemical. We had to heat them over the Bunsen burner and waited until it changed colour. It started blue than went to orange.

Stepz Dancing

Recently the year 8 students have been having lessons which is about ballroom dancing. We are all doing this in prepration for the year 8 leavers social. Our dancing tutor is a person from the dance studio named stepz. His name is Simon and he is a great teacher. We learn many dances such as rock and roll, cha-cha, tango and many more. My favorite dance of them all would be the tango by far. When we go to these lessons we go with two other classrooms.

Zone Athletics

On Thursday 26 of November, other students and myself had the opportunity to attend zone athletics. It was a really great day. I was in for the 100m sprints, the 200m sprints and the relay. My first race was at 10:15 and it was the 200m Sprints. The organizers were taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place getter to the finals. In this race i came 4th place and made it to the finals. After this race i was so tired and feeling sick that i had to make my self throw up. Next the 100m sprints, unfortunately i got 5th place and did not advance to the finals. My 200m finals were not to far away. I got 4th again and was very pleased. Finally the relay race happend our team came 5th but we were still happy.

School Athletics Day

On Tuesday the 17th of November, our school had their annual athletics day at Growers and Turners Stadium. There were many events that people could enter in such as. Field events: High jump, long jump, discus, and shot put. In the track events there were 100m sprints, 200m, 400m, 800m, and a mammoth 1500m race. I had entered in the 100m and 200m sprints. The races were intense but enjoyable at the same time. First the 1500m races went first. The order of the race ages went like this. First the junior girls, then junior boys. Intermediate Girls after that intermediate boys. Senior girls and finally senior boys. This order happened in every track event. Next my first race came up, the 100m sprints. The juniors went first. Then my turn, i walked up to the start line with all of my heat. In my view and other peoples opinion, our group was the fastest heat. All the fast people from Intermediate boys were in this heat. The gun blew and we were off. I had come first place in that race, my time; 13.25 Seconds. I was now in the finals. My next race was the 200m Sprints. My hardest competition in that race was Caleb Krone. I was determined not to let him beat me, because he was a year 7 and if i got beaten it would be embarrassing. Luckily i came through and got first place. The 100m finals came up i won that race by diving and won the 200m finals. I was now going to zone for 100m sprints and 200m sprints.

Music Inquiry

For my music Authentic Challenge, i worked with a classmate. Our website was named tempestuous, which focused mainly on heavy metal rock. We had to create a recording artist and post information about him/her on our website. You also had to include a biography, discography, awards, lyrics from a song, album play list, a recorded song and a photo gallery. One of our hardest problems to get around was uploading photos and choosing colors. Our website hyperlink is Tempestuous12.web.com. some of our classmates entered in the Net Guide school Website design competition.

Rugby League 09

This was the first time Pukekohe Intermediate had ever attended Zone Rugby League. There were two teams that went to the event, an under 55kg, and a over 55kg team. The event was held at Mountford Park Manurewa on the 1st of September. The day was awesome with the under 55kg team taking out third place. Our team the over 55kg had played three games that day, our first one against Mansell straight after we got off the bus, then Manurewa and finally Takanini. Unfortunately we lost every game. Each game was 20 minutes long, each half was 10 minutes. The rules were all the usual, no high tackling, forward passing, knock ons, and other basic rules. Extra rules that applied for league were on the sixth tackle hand it over, you have to pass the ball twice in twenty minutes and no kicking unless the last tackle.

Everyone assembled at the fields by the netball courts. To me the run was intense, I took out 30th place in the Year 8 Boys race. We had started our training a good 6 to 7 weeks before the event. Science Fair 09

Pukekohe Intermediate had there annual Science fair competition. Our Group ( Jesse Watkin, Alex Sheree and I) did our science fair project on Viscosity. We chose to present our project on a research board. Our group ran into some trouble while doing our science fair project, our topic started as finger prints. We were planning to do how people disguise their fingerprints. Our group learnt a lot about viscosity, such as what it is, how it used and how it affects liquid. Our overall score for our project was 70, i think we could have improved our score by displaying our infomation in a different way and adding more infomation.

Washing your hair is essential, for personal hygiene.

Many people do not like washing there hair they believe it is a waste of time and its not important. But washing your hair has many benefits.

In Kendall's Name

During our D.A.R.E authentic challenge on drugs while researching we came across a very sad story of a sister who lost her sister to drugs. We sent her an email to ask if we could use her story she replied with the following email.

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Kyndall's story. You are more than welcome to use anything you would like.
Please see her website and please look through the PowerPoint presentation, her journals and also the archived News information.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask.
I applaud your efforts in helping the world-wide drug epidemic.
Thanks,
Nicole

Fact Recall

Narritive

Could of said NO

“Ouch” a screwed up piece of paper hit Matt on the back of the head, he looked around swearing under his breath. Reaching for the piece of paper he opened it up. It read you wanna do something fun today something exciting, Matt looked up at Josh the slim boy with the black hoddie and blondish brownish hair, Matt glanced back at the piece of paper and read on how about we steal some stuff it read at the bottom of the piece of paper it read P.S meet me in the corridor and a few very nasty words carried on the sentence.
As the interval bell went Matt stayed back for a little waiting for all the rest of the students to leave the classroom. Once everyone was gone Matt walked to the corridor and meet up with Josh who was surrounded by girls. When Josh saw Matt he told the girls to leave. “What do you want”? Said Matt “oh yes I had a really good idea in class that we should get back at Mr Garrison and steal his laptop” laughed Josh. A few weeks earlier Mr Garrison had caught them after school tagging on the walls of the school therefore they had a very bad grudge against Mr Garrison plus it was none of his business. Even though Matt didn’t like Mr Garrison he was very worried that he would get in more trouble than before. “So you wanna do it”.
Matt had to think long and hard about his decision if he did it he would prove him self worthy of Josh but if he didn’t he would lose his only friend for sure, “Yes” replied Matt “good meet you at the classroom after school 3:30 don’t be late!”.
At 3:30 Josh was waiting outside the classroom looking up and glancing around he saw Matt and said are you ready I nodded he opened the door and ran in I followed. When I got inside he was already at the desk he threw the laptop at me I dropped it there was a loud thud that echoed in the room. Josh then started cursing at him then they go in to an argument. They were vey unaware that the teachers would be back soon and sure enough Mr Garrison walks in.
The next was a terrible day as the Principle, their parents and Mr Garrison talked to Matt and Josh. Matt and Josh were expelled from this school and therefore Matt thought back to the incident and the only thing he should of done when Josh asked to steal the laptop was NO.

Lunch Time Touch

Every lunch time at Pukekohe Intermediate, classroom touch teams take to the field to participate in the classroom touch competition.

Mrs Hancock the school sports co-ordinator, has started this competition. She got students to help with the competition such as setting up the field or refereeing games.

Rules to the competition and the game are very straight forward. Rules for the competition are that you can only have 6 players on the field, your team must have 2 girls on the field during the game. All touch rules apply.

Our classroom has won 2 games against room3 & room5 and unfortunatley lost 2 games to room 4 and room 5.

To improve our game play, our class need to work together, run forwards and eliminate errors.

Quote:
The touch rugby referees have been and the competition couldn't of happened without them. :)
